KoMets ready for K-W, Swalla Duals

When it comes to wrestling powerhouses in Southeast Minnesota, the first two schools that come up in conversation are Kasson-Mantorville and Kenyon-Wanamingo. Over the past couple of years, the two schools have had epic battles that have determined the HVL championship and given both squads a test heading into the final stretch run of the season.
This week, the KoMets and Knights will renew their acquaintances as they’ll compete as part of a triangular in Stewartville on Thursday evening. The matchup between two defending state champions is something that any team could get up for and the KoMets are no exception.
“It’s been a rivalry that’s been there a while,” K-M wrestling coach Jamie Heidt explained. “It’s exciting because they’re Class A and we’re Class AA, so we see them on Thursday night and then we’re done. They go their way and we go ours. We’re big fans of theirs except when they’re wrestling us and it’s one of those things we put it aside for one night and see who the best is that night.”
In order to prepare for the big showdown, the KoMets went about their business last week by picking up three wins to run their dual record 10-0 and 4-0 in the HVL. Their week started against HVL adversary Pine Island and the KoMets were in their usual dominant form.
Jace Minelli, Matthew Harfmann, Jared Johnson, Robby Horsman, Nic VanOort Brady Laumb and Will Jensen all picked up victories for the KoMets as they narrowly avoided shutting out the Panthers in a 66-3 victory.
