Wallace John (Doc) Emholtz, Mantorville

Wallace John (Doc) Emholtz passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Jan. 5, 2017 after a heart attack. Wally was born on July 24, 1935 in Mantorville, Minn., to Walter and Amelia (Gronert) Emholtz. He grew up in the Mantorville/Pine Island area. He joined the Navy on July 28, 1952 and served in the Korean War.  
He married Wanita June Olson on June 8, 1971 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eyota Minn. The two of them resided in Mantorville most of their married life. He enjoyed fishing, going out to eat and spending time at area casinos with his special friend, Jan Speer, as well as going to coffee at Hy-Vee and attending church in Mantorville on Sundays.
One of his favorite hobbies was carving Diamond Willow canes.   
He is survived by his daughter Lorraine Emholtz of Rochester, Minn., son Bernard D. Swanson (Tammy) of Kasson, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, his wife and sons, Donald K. Swanson of Mantorville and Maynard D. Swanson of Kasson, as well as two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  
Funeral services were held Jan. 11, 2017 at The First Congregational Church, 515 Walnut Street, Mantorville with Pastor Brian Egelston officiating. Visitation was held prior to the service at the church. Burial was at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to either the Kasson American Legion or the Mantorville VFW.
