Committed to keeping public informed during election season

It is summer time during an even year, which means election season is underway.
Like we did in 2024, the DCI will begin its weekly election series to help keep readers informed about where the candidates stand, starting after the 4th of July.
Each week we will feature different contested races at the local level along with for our state legislator positions.
Since Senate District 24 has the only contested primary — that race will be featured each week, along with a rotation of the other competitive races.
This is the seat currently held by state Sen. Carla Nelson, who is retiring at the end of her term, which has prompted a competitive GOP primary.
Unlike large voter guides where voters have to read through pages and pages of information close to the election we find this approach much more digestible, and gives candidates a variety of different questions to answer to give voters an understanding of where they stand on policy issues.
There will be many races voters will be voting on in November, and it could also include a levy vote for Kasson-Mantorville voters, as the School Board will be deciding in the coming weeks on whether or not to put an operating levy on the ballot in November.
This is all in addition to the local city council and school board races, which will have a filing period for people to run later this summer.
We are excited to give candidates a chance to share their views, and to inform the public which is crucial to a healthy Democracy.
