Robert C. Hilliard, 96, Kasson

Robert Clark Hilliard, 96, died on Sept. 5, 2016, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital. 
Robert was born to Ross and Josephine (Maxson) Hilliard on May 9, 1920, in Kasson. He graduated from Mantorville High School in 1939.  He married Dorothy Peterson in Kasson on Aug. 3, 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the South Pacific from April 1942 to November 1945.  Bob also served in the Korean War from September 1950 through December 1951 as a member of the 698th Engineer Maintenance Company.
He retired from Erdman’s Super Value in 1982 after over 30 years of working there. Bob worked in many areas of the store. At the time of his retirement was the frozen food and dairy manager.
Bob and Dorothy lived in Colorado from 1957 to 1969 prior to moving to Kasson.  Bob enjoyed golf, and when he wasn’t swinging the clubs, you could find him collecting golf balls. Bob also enjoyed his time with his friends fishing at every chance that he had.
Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy and 3 sons; John of Strasburg, Colo.; Richard (Toni) of Las Vegas and David (Kathleen) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; two sisters; Mary Peterson of Austin and Joan Simonson of Michigan; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Josephine Hilliard; sister, Peggy Starkson and brothers, Charles and Oscar Hilliard.
The Hilliard family would like to extend gratitude to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for their attentiveness and loving care.
Funeral Services was held Sept. 10, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN.  Inurnment was held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.  Military graveside services were provided by members of the Kasson American Legion and the Mantorville VFW.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
