Two file for Kasson mayor

Within the first few hours of filing for city offices on Tuesday, two candidates emerged as contenders for mayor of Kasson in this fall’s election. 
Current mayor Steve Johnson filed for re-election and will be challenged by at least one other person, Chris McKern.
Both own businesses in Kasson. Johnson is part owner of Stevenson’s Insurance Agency while McKern has interest in a variety of businesses, including McKern Financial. 
Johnson is in his first term as mayor. He took office in January 2015.
Filing for local government offices opened Tuesday morning and will remain open until Aug. 16 at 5 p.m.
The general election is Nov. 8.
