Sports and alcohol: A deadly combo

He may not be Tiger Woods, but for years Minnesota native Bill Israelson has been tearing up the courses around the country as a professional golfer.
The 59-year-old has an impressive list of accomplishments on his golf record. Some of them include playing in three U.S. Opens, winning many Minnesota PGA Golf Tournaments and playing on the PGA Tour in the mid-1980s. 
While Israelson has enjoyed sweet success on the golf course over the years, there is a demon in his past that continues to cause great anguish for a Steele County family. The impact of sports and alcohol hits home especially hard for this family.
Ashley Casey of Ellendale was only 2 years old when Israelson got so drunk after winning a golf tournament in Faribault and killed her mother, Michelle Malakowsky, in August 1988. Israelson was driving on Interstate 35 north of Faribault when his car went off the road in a construction zone, flew through the air and sliced off the top of an oncoming car. Malakowsky was driving the other vehicle and died
