Driver charged in ‘Whoopee Hill’ death

A West Concord teenager has been charged in connection with the death of another teen in a car crash in Dodge County last December.
The Dodge County Attorney’s Office has charged Candace Marie Utech, 17, with one felony count of criminal vehicular homicide and a misdemeanor count of reckless driving. 
Prosecutors accuse Utech of being responsible for causing the death of Logan Maas, 18, of Dodge Center on Dec. 18. The Triton senior died in a single vehicle rollover in the 53000 block of 275th Avenue, a gravel road located in Milton Township south of Pine Island. 
 
Maas was a volunteer firefighters for Dodge Center and had plans to join the Marines after graduation. 
There were two other teenage passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They received non-life threatening injuries. Utech was the only person who buckled up. The three unbelted passengers, including Maas, were ejected from the vehicle.
