DCI debuts  new editorial cartoonist

The Dodge County Independent is honored to introduce a new editorial cartoonist beginning this week.
The DCI will now run cartoons created by Joe Heller, an award-winning cartoonist from Green Bay, Wis. He replaces Ed Fischer, who died earlier this year. In recent months, the DCI had been running Fischer’s cartoons from the archives.
Heller is an editorial cartoonist who distributes his cartoons to more than 300 newspapers across the country. He cartooned for the Green Bay Press-Gazette from 1985 to 2013, when he was cut as part of a large round of layoffs by a corporate owner.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
His work is regularly reprinted in USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Newsweek.
He claims to have personally met both Garfield and Snoopy and calls them “class acts all the way.”
