Parkin, Thompson to face off in county attorney race

Assistant Dodge County Attorney Kailee Thompson on Tuesday filed to run for the top job.
Longtime County Attorney Paul Kiltinen told the DCI earlier this year he would not seek re-election following a decision by the Dodge County Commissioners to move the part-time position to full-time beginning in January.
Crysta Parkin, a long-time assistant county attorney, told the DCI following the decision to move the position full-time, that she would be running for the job.
She filed to run for the seat on May 26.
As the filing period for state and county offices wrapped up, the only other Dodge County races with multiple candidates running were in Senate District 24 and County Commissioner District 2.
Filings closed at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.
In the District 4 County Commissioner race Ashley Martin will be running against incumbent Rhonda Toquam.
As of Tuesday morning, three Republicans, Chuck Bradford, Nels T. Pierson and Dan Sepeda and DFL candidate Simon Glaser, had filed to succeed Sen. Carla Nelson, who is not seeking re-election.
In the House District 24A race, Republican incumbent Duane Quam has filed, as has DFL challenger Heather Holmes.
In Dodge County races, the only one with a contest was County Commissioner District 2, where incumbent Tim Tjosaas and Troy Stafford had filed. In District 3, James Checkel was the only candidate to file as of Tuesday night.
Sheriff Scott Rose will run for re-election unchallenged.
There were no candidates who had filed for Soil and Water Supervisor District 3 and Soil and Water Supervisor District 4.
Filings were also open for federal offices, Minnesota executive offices and judicial offices.
In federal filings, seven Republicans and four Democrats had filed for U.S. Senator; three Republicans and one Democrat filed for U.S. Congressional District 1 representative.
Four Republicans and four Democrats have filed for governor and lieutenant governor. One Republican and one Democrat had filed for Minnesota secretary of state; two Republicans and one Democrat for state auditor and one Republican and two Democrats for attorney general.
Filings for city and school board positions will open on July 14 and continue until 5 p.m. on July 28.
