Dodge Center earns four-game winning streak

As the host city of Triton High School, the sport of baseball hasn’t been a strong suit for Dodge Center in 2016. The Cobras finished with just a pair of wins on the season thanks to a lineup that was learning to play at the varsity level. However, the season was more of a process to prepare the team to compete as they continue to grow.
This summer has been a slightly different story as the Dodge Center Legion Team has doubled the Triton win total from the spring with a four-game winning streak and an overall record of 5-5.
“Things have gone well,” Dodge Center coach Mike Ellingson observed. “We’ve really started executing things correctly so things like bunts are working in our favor. They’re all those little things to manufacture runs that these guys seem to be picking up on, so we’ve picked up some close wins that we weren’t getting in the spring.”
The most notable change for Dodge Center has been at the plate where Ellingson has simply instructed his players to swing the bat. As a basic improvement, Dodge Center has been in more games thanks to an increased output at the plate.
“They need to learn how to be hitters,” Ellingson stated. “I’m not looking for walks or anything else. They need their at-bats and they need to be aggressive. It’s what I’m looking to see from them.”
Another encouraging development has been the slew of players that have stepped up over the course of the summer. Nick Roussopoulos has given the team a solid effort on the mound and has accepted a role at the top of the lineup after hitting toward the bottom of it during the Triton schedule.
