K-M trapshooters cherish state appearance

Five members of the Kasson-Mantorville trapshooting team competed at the Minnesota High School Championships this past weekend. The meet, which took place on June 17 in Alexandria, Minnesota, featured over 7,000 kids that qualified out of the 10,000 that participated in the sport this past season.
While the eight-day event featured two rain delays and a hail storm, K-M’s shooters did very well for their first time participating in the event. Over their four rounds of 25, the varsity division shined as John Klinkhammer recorded a score of 89 to lead the team. D.J. Allen also participated in the varsity division and shot an 87.
Junior Varsity shooters also saw success at the event as Luke Chilson shot an 81 including a perfect round of 25 to get his meet started. He was followed by Alex McElmury (80) and Brayden Tjosas, who shot a 64.
Overall, the team is hoping to see more of their members participate in the event next year, but the inaugural experience is a testament to the work that the shooters and the coaching staff, lead by Jeff Ek, put in during the season.
