Triton students join in Read Across America

They were reading in the gym. They were reading in the library. They were reading in the hallways.
They were Triton students and they were taking part in Read Across America Day.
For a half hour last Wednesday morning everyone in the school was either reading or being read to as part of a nationwide event. 
Kindergarten through fifth grade students were scattered throughout the building with a variety of books. Then came the sixth through 12th graders. They matched themselves up with the younger students and the reading began. Sometimes the younger ones read to the older ones. Or maybe the older students read to the younger ones.
Either way everyone was engaged in reading.
It was all part of the National Education Association’s 16th annual event to celebrate the joy of reading in schools throughout the nation. March 2 was chosen as the day for the event because it is the birthday of Dr. Seuss, beloved children’s author and creator of the Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Grinch, the Whos and many other characters.
At Triton, the event was dubbed Read Across Triton Day and the reading session was scheduled to coincide with events taking place at 10:15 a.m. each day as part of the High School’s annual Snow Week. It also fit in nicely with the school’s emphasis on increasing literacy of all students.
The day got off to an appropriate start with the breakfast served that morning including Green Eggs and Ham
