KoMets earn big victory at Stewartville

The Kasson-Mantorville boys basketball team seems to be hitting its stride after an early rough stretch to the season. With several injuries, shooting slumps and defensive lapses, the beginning of the year hasn’t gone completely to plan, but showed plenty of promise after a 65-40 victory at Stewartville on Dec. 22.
“This was a much needed road, conference and section win for us,” K-M Head Coach Kelly Raymond declared. “We challenged some of our guys to step up with our recent injuries and they really answered the call.”
The KoMets battled evenly with the Tigers in the first half, but their 22-17 lead was broken open in the second half. K-M caught fire as its key components were joined by a strong effort from the bench. Tyler Wanous played tremendous defense and Jacob Bulger added seven points in a perfect three-for-three night from the floor. Riley Schwenke also played a key part in a 65-40 win.
“They really played well,” Raymond said of the bench. “I think they were a huge key in our victory.”
Braxton Raymond had his usual big night from the floor as he scored 23 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists. Brendan Knoll also flirted with a triple double in the contest with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
