Smokin’ Silverback closes

Citing high expenses, Smokin’ Silverback in Kasson has closed less than a year after opening the location. 
The business was previously located in Owatonna. 
Eviction proceedings began at the end of August due to failure to pay rent, according to court documents. 
“Defendant agrees to the entry of a Judgment in favor of Plaintiff for recovery of the leased premises and issuance of a writ of recovery stayed until 11:59 PM on September 18, 2025,” the judgement stated. “ The defendant shall vacate the premises on or before 11:59 PM on September 18, 2025 and if he fails to do so the Plaintiff shall be entitled to issuance of a writ of recovery upon filing of an affidavit of non-compliance by the Plaintiff’s attorney, Frank J. McAnulty. Plaintiff shall be entitled to its allowable costs in the amount of $645.00.”
The business’ location was the former Daniel’s restaurant. 
Asked for comment, owner Ben Meyer wrote, “We had a few slow months and expenses were very high. I tried to work with the landlord but he was unwilling to work with us and so we had no choice but to close the doors.”
“With the prices of everything going up a lot of small businesses are and will struggle and without the support they need to survive they will be forced to close,” he wrote. “I took a chance at a dream and unfortunately I didn’t have the financial means to continue. All I can say is I tried. Please support small businesses people. They depend on you the people to survive and thrive. This country was built on small businesses. God bless.”
