Dodge County Sheriff’s Office helps Toys for Tots

The late Dodge County Sheriff’s Capt. Loring Guenther was a big supporter of the Toys for Tots program and this year the Sheriff’s Office is collecting toys and money for the program as a way to honor his memory.
The office has been collecting from officers, county employees and friends of Guenther and last week they took the money collected so far and purchased toys, lots of toys.
Saturday a group of Guenther’s friends and co-workers went to Rochester to drop off $4,000 worth of new toys at the Toys for Tots drop-off site.
“Loring believed no child should ever go without at Christmas and felt so strongly about this program,” the Sheriff’s office wrote on its Facebook page. “This donation will help insure that all of our Dodge County requests get honored this year. It’s an honor to continue this great tradition in Loring’s name this year and for years to come.”
The office will continue to collect toys and monetary donations until Dec. 20, Sheriff Scott Rose said.
“We still have a long way to go to meet our needs,” he said. “We have drop boxes here at the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office where you can drop off a new unwrapped toy or gift.
“Teens are always our toughest category to fill so please keep them in mind this year,” he said. “Some examples for great gifts are headphones, earbuds, any electronics, fishing poles, sports stuff.”
Two of the deputies, Darryl and Michele Clements, are also making metal sheriff and police landscape badges and Christmas decorations with a thin blue line and fire and EMS badges honoring Guenther.
Proceeds from the items are going to Toys for Tots.
