Reader engagement is needed

Every week this newspaper puts out countless stories about the good, bad, and indifferent happening across Dodge County and in Byron.
Some stories the newspaper naturally covers: school board, city council, county board, and other government meetings.
Typical features within the newspaper include Ron Albright’s longstanding column, “I Was Thinking,” Wayne Hendrickson’s mostly weekly feature, “Our Neighbor,” along with guest columns, obituaries, and other items.
Our reporters work hard trying to find different stories to cover and people and organizations worthy of highlighting.
For example, this week, Mira Koehler scooped up a story about Ready Set Learn, a nonprofit organization doing good work in the community.
She found the lead on Facebook.
But like any other news organization, this newspaper relies on members of the community to provide story leads.
This week, for example, we were given a story tip about Gene Gulbransen, who has been the face of the Oslo Sinclair station for over five decades.
Oftentimes, stories that come from members of the community can be the most impactful.
Whether it’s a neighbor who has done great work in the community for many years, someone whose story would make an interesting Our Neighbor story, a nonprofit organization that deserves recognition, a new business in town, or even a lemonade stand that helps raise funds for a worthy cause, we want to highlight these stories.
