Fundraising under way for wheelchair accessible swing

An initiative led by Kasson-Mantorville Special Education teacher Sara Bailey and Kasson Public Works supervisor Ben Langan is raising money for a wheelchair accessible swing to be installed at Veteran’s Memorial Park. 
The initiative between the City of Kasson Park Board, local families, and businesses will ensure that everyone, regardless of mobility, can enjoy the playground to its fullest potential.
Bailey has been a teacher in the district for five years. She lives in Mantorville with her husband, Paul, and three kids; Kaden, Tessa, and Payton. She started talking to the park board about her plan two years ago. 
“They have done a lot of the leg work,” said Bailey.
"I started it because I see all the times kids in wheelchairs are left out of activities due to their mobility and wanted to make our park more accessible so they can enjoy going to the park just like all of the other youth in our community."
Purchase and installation will require $15,000 in donations with $7,000 having been raised so far. Donations will cover purchasing the swing, concrete work, border, fabric, rock, mulch, additional equipment such as a canopy for the swing area and sensory toys, if funds allow.  Business donations will have names on a plaque next to the swing.
