Mantorville vandalism continues; Sheriff asks for tips

For several months, residents in the neighborhood of Chestnut and Ninth Street in Mantorville have been plagued by acts of vandalism, city council member Don Hofstad reported to fellow city council members at their regular meeting on Nov. 23.
The most recent incidents included damage to siding on homes apparently caused by pellet guns, the cutting of Christmas light wires and houses being egged.
The vandalism began in the spring with tires being slashed and sidewalk lights being smashed. 
In an email exchange, Sheriff Scott Rose commented on the issue.
“The recent vandalism in Mantorville continues to be a problem. Unfortunately, if it’s juveniles on foot, they’re often difficult for deputies to catch. Our Mantorville deputies will continue to patrol and watch these areas. We encourage homeowners to utilize motion lighting when they can, watch out for your neighbors, and call in all suspicious activity. If you suspect specific kids, please tell the deputy. We also want to remind parents, if your kids are the vandals, not only will they be cited, but, you will be held accountable for the damage. Some of this damage, especially when siding is involved, can get very expensive to fix. Please talk to your kids about vandalism and respecting other’s property.
