KoMets vs. Cancer tops $9,000

It was another successful year for the KoMets vs. Cancer fundraising event. This year’s activities raised $9,500, according to Michele Lindquist, advisor to the Kasson-Mantorville FCCLA Club, which helps organize the event.
KoMets vs. Cancer is a yearly event at Kasson-Mantorville High School, she said. FCCLA coordinates the event, she said, which involves the various winter sports teams. Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Dance, and Gymnastics all participate in the activities which are held in January. Each team has a parent coordinator to help with the planning.
This year, Lindquist said, the events took place on four different nights in January and February. As part of each event athletes run into the stands with buckets to raise money for cancer research. In addition to the fundraising at athletic events, there was also an activity during Snow Week featuring three on three basketball where the winning team played a staff team. The $1 admission to the final game also went to KoMets vs. Cancer.
Lindquist said KoMets vs. Cancer has been an ongoing activity at K-M for 12 or 13 years.
