McCool fends off write-in campaign

West Concord Mayor Jeff McCool was able to fend off a write-in campaign by former West Concord City Councilor Christina Wetzstein Peterson.
As reported previously by the Dodge County Independent, Wetzstein Peterson said she had members of the community ask her if she would consider taking on the mayoral role if she should win a write-in campaign.
“I have had some people in town ask me if I would take the mayor role if they wrote me in. I said I would consider it if I got the votes,” she wrote in a statement to the DCI previously. “I myself am not running a campaign for it but others in town have taken upon themselves to create a campaign with me as a write- in.”
McCool received 70.9% of the vote.
“Congratulations goes out to all the candidates that ran,” McCool wrote in a statement following the election. “West Concord truly got out to vote!”
He added: “On a personal note, I wish to thank those that voted for their continued trust in me! I am humbled and will continue to work hard to do my best for West Concord!”
In the race for City Council Karen Johnson, and Jeffrey Burse received the most votes, with Nicholas Kilen coming in third. The top two candidates are elected.
