Clear instruction leads to greater connectio

The previous two columns I have written have showcased the Triton Activities Department’s commitment to the development of the Profile of a Graduate characteristics of Triton students through their participation in cocurricular activities. The third area that we are intentional about is instruction and identification.
Many students need more instruction on what it means to fulfill the eight characteristics outlined in the Triton Profile of a Graduate. Our coaches and advisors take time to intentionally provide instruction on the Profile of a Graduate characteristics, teaching our students about the skills that will lead them to success.
In turn this helps us instruct students on what skills they should be developing, as well as outlining examples of how this skill can create success in the classroom, competition, and the community. The instruction from our coaches and advisors allows for greater connection with parents and guardians of the students as the instruction provides topics for conversation on the way to and from practices and competitions.
The connection of parents and guardians to the development of the Profile of a Graduate characteristics is a cornerstone of the foundation of the Triton Activities Department. Providing parents and guardians with information on the instruction of the Profile of a Graduate characteristics allows for parents and guardians to connect students to ways that the characteristics can be fulfilled at home.
Through this process we teach students about the characteristics that are desired within the Triton community, as well as how they are desired in competition, the classroom, and the community at large. In order to reinforce this within our students, we must identify when our students exhibit the Profile of a Graduate characteristics.
At Triton, we are intentional in recognizing students for demonstrating the Profile of a Graduate characteristics. Whether it is through the bimonthly Profile of a Graduate recognitions, social media, or public praise our coaches, teachers, and advisors are aligned on recognizing students for demonstrating the Profile of a Graduate characteristics.
The integration of the Profile of a Graduate characteristics within our cocurricular activities has connected students, teachers, coaches, advisors and parents to the same mission of developing the Profile of a Graduate characteristics within our students. Instruction and identification of the Profile of a Graduate characteristics completes the cyclical process of instructing, demonstrating, and identifying the Profile of a Graduate characteristics within our students that will take the Triton Activities Department to new heights.
