Elder Network expands caregiver services in Dodge County
Elder Network in Rochester has announced it is expanding its Caregiver Respite Program to Dodge County.
“We are excited to launch this expansion in conjunction with our community partners in Dodge County and look forward to assisting individuals, families and caregivers in need,” said Elder Network Executive Director Kathy Scheid.
The organization currently provides individual respite services and caregiver coaching in Dodge County.
The Caregiver Group Respite Program is for both the caregiver and the care receiver. The caregiver will have a couple hours for self-care activities, to relax, or have time to do something they need to do. The care receiver will be safe and enjoying themselves.
The groups will be led by a trained facilitator that makes the groups fun and engaging. The groups will be two hours long in a public setting where the care receiver can be in the community and participate in activities at their level.
There is currently a group meeting in Dodge Center at the Center Cafe, said Stephanie Peterson of Hayfield who is working with Elder Network to get the program started. Burger King in Kasson and Uncle Mony’s in Hayfield have also offered to host groups.
Attending the activities have benefits to both the caregiver and the one receiving the care, Peterson said. While the caregivers can use the time for some self-care activities, the care receiver will also have some time away from their caregiver and enjoying the company of others.
“It’s so important for these people to still get out,” Peterson said.
