Triton FFA Chapter delivers 1,100 pounds of food to Food Shelf
Using money raised from their annual Corn Drive, the Triton FFA Chapter delivered 1,105 pounds of food to the Dodge County Food Shelf in Kasson.
Each year the chapter solicits donation of corn and soybeans from area farmers as well as cash. The crops are then sold to the elevator with the money raised funding FFA projects throughout the year.
For the past several years the chapter has taken $1,000 of the money raised, purchased food and delivered the food to the Food Shelf. Each year Sunshine Foods adds $100 on to that amount.
More than 20 FFA members were at Sunshine Foods in Dodge Center last Thursday. The students divided up into two-person teams and went through the aisles loading their carts with food.
“You can tell this is one of the few times some of them have made a decision on buying food,” FFA advisor and agriscience teacher Robert Ickler said as he watched the students go up and down the aisles.
