Student-led “Eurydice” leads audience to the Underworld

Mantorville Theatre Company presents its second student-led production, “Eurydice” by Sara Ruhl. The show runs August 23-25, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mantorville Opera House.
Eurydice reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, not through Orpheus’s infamous pilgrimage to retrieve his bride, but through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love.
KcinSiegele directs the show, plays the role of Orpheus and will be a junior at Kasson-Mantorville this fall. Jocelyn Moscatelli plays Eurydice and will be a sophomore at Byron High School. Emma Wilson portrays the Father of Eurydice. The Nasty Interesting Man and Child is played by Arlo Gall who will be a junior at K-M.
A recent K-M grad, BreNeher is the assistant director, set designer and plays The Littlest Stone. The Biggest Stone is played by Tyler Pries. Zoe Wallenstein portrays The Loudest Stone and will be a sophomore at K-M.
Other student crew members include Hayden Schauer and Logan Brewner on lights and sound and Elise Wilson works backstage.
This Mantorville Theatre Company student-led project gives an opportunity for talented youth to express themselves, build a sense of responsibility, and gain esteem within the community. Youth in the community can take part in school shows and summer theatre under adult guidance. However, they do not have options to create independently.
This MTC project is student-run as much as possible. Students researched and proposed a script; they cast and directed the show, using student actors. Students designed and implemented the set and they selected-or-created costumes. They participated in promotion of the show and in stage-management, lighting, and sound. Adult artists have been available to advise and ensure safety but adults have worked as instructors rather than implementers.
