Free Road Maps at State Fair
Now that many oil companies have discontinued giving away road maps, visitors to the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, August 23-Septemper 2, will be pleased to know they may have a copy of the official 1974 Minnesota highway map for the asking at the Highway Department booth in the state exhibits building on Machinery Hill.
Issued for free distribution to the public, the map is published annually under a state law requiring it to show “the location and status of improvements in the trunk highway system.”
A display of the many kinds of maps available to the public at nominal prices from the Minnesota HighwayDepartment may also be inspected at the fair. While they will not be sold there, order blanks will be available for their purchase by mail.

Then you may want to enter your home grown product for the Kasson Chamber of Commerce sponsored fruit and vegetable Harvest Day Friday, August 26, in front of the Kasson V & S Variety Store.
Bring in your favorite/best fruit or vegetable and you have a good chance of winning one of 16 prizes to be awarded by participating Kasson businesses. Prizes are to be awarded in each category from the following businesses:
Kasson Hardware Hank, Kasson Eye Care Center, Miller’s Used Merchandise & Antiques, Leutholds, Houston’s Greenhouse, Kasson Drug, Bishop &Wachholz, Erdmans Food Center, Village Inn, Dodge County Independent, Kasson State Bank, Kasson Lumber Company, Kasson Municipal Liquor Store, and Pies ‘N Stuff.
Bring your fruit or vegetable to the Kasson Variety Store by 10 a.m. Friday. Judging will be done by noon. Fruit or vegetables not picked up will be sold and money donated tothe K-M Care and Share.

Bloomers at Erdmans to give away roses
Wednesday, September 1, residents of Kasson-Mantorville will have the unique opportunity to meet each other and develop new friendships when Bloomers at Erdmans County Market hosts their second annual FTD Good Neighbor Day event. Beginning at 7 a.m. Bloomers at Erdmans in Kasson will give away 2,500 roses in bunches of a dozen absolutely free to anyone who visits the shop, while supplies last.
There is one catch to the giveaway. Erdmansand Bloomers hope the goodwill is exactly that, “catching.” Anyone who picks up a dozen free flowers will be asked to sign a promise to keep one of the flowers for themselves and give the others away to 11 different people, spreading goodwill and friendship in the communities.
“We hope the people of Kasson and Mantorville will be able to get acquainted with new people or will renew an old friendship during FTD Good Neighbor Day,” states Rebecca Garber, Floral manager. “We hope to help to help create a friendlier, more caring and compassionate world, starting right here in the K-M area.
This is the second year for good Neighbor Day in the K-M area. The number of roses given away has more than doubled with community support and is equal to nearly one half the entire population of Kasson.
FTD Good Neighbor Day is being celebrated for the 10th year throughout the United States and Canada at participating FTD floral shops as a day of celebrating goodwill toward all people. Joining the efforts at Bloomers are 15 local sponsors: AmericInn, Bigelow Realty, Citizens State Bank of Mantorville, Daniels Restaurant, Digger’s Bar & Grill, Eastwood Bank, Dodge County Independent Newspaper, Edina Realty, Kasson Hardware Hank, Kasson Municipal Liquor Store, Kasson State Bank, KMTelecom, Kasson Regional Veterinary Hospital, Kasson Kar Kare and Weber Law Offices.
It is expected that thousands of FTD Florists in North America will participate in this year’s FTD Good Neighbor Day event, giving away millions of free flowers.

Statement form Dodge County Commissioners received Aug. 12, 2014
Dodge County is aware of a publication that was mailed to all residents detailing anumber of complaints against the county. When an allegation of misconduct is made involving the county, the county acts to promptly review the complaint and thoroughly investigate if necessary. This law prevents the county from commenting or releasing information to the public.
As for the referenced complaint against a member of the county attorney’s office, the Minnesota Lawyers’ Professional Responsibility Board, in cooperation with the county attorney, reviewed the author’s complaint and determined it did not warrant investigation.
