KoMets resillent in loss to Stewartville

The Kasson-Mantorville volleyball team has had its share of ups and downs this season, but put forth one of their greatest efforts of the season in a loss to Stewartville last Thursday. The four-set loss ends the KoMets’ season, but they have plenty to be proud of after showing plenty of resiliency.
“I thought that the girls played hard,” K-M head coach Adam VanOort said. “They didn’t play the cleanest volleyball, but they never gave up and they worked as hard as they could all the way to the end.”
The match began with Stewartville roaring out to an early lead. With precision passing and kills, the KoMets couldn’t find their footing and found themselves in a 1-0 hole after a 25-14 loss in the first game.
The beginning of the second game was similar for the Tigers. They raced out to a 9-2 lead, but that’s where the KoMets began to show their resiliency with a 9-3 run and eventually took a lead. However, Stewartville was able to take control again and defeat K-M 25-22 in a hard-fought game.
It was do or die for K-M in the third game as the KoMets and Tigers went blow for blow and were tied at 12. The Tigers would have the KoMets on the ropes with a 22-20 lead, but five unanswered points gave K-M a 25-22 win and a chance to play a fourth game.
Much like the first two games, Stewartville would get another early advantage. With a 9-4 lead the KoMets tried to claw their way back and eventually tied the match at 22. However, the night belonged to the Tigers as three unanswered points of their own would end K-M’s season.
