Weather causes some issues for Dodge County communities

As many communities across the State, including in Southern Minnesota, are navigating the impacts of the recent storms, which brought inches of rain to Dodge County, Kasson City Administrator Tim Ibisch said the city’s “infrastructure generally performed well during the most recent rain events.”
“Previous to that of course we had significant impacts to the electrical system during the storms earlier last week,” he wrote in an email statement. “With the wind damage to the lines and the roof flipping off of Gibbs we did have a power outage last week. City staff have been (working) overtime to ensure that system is stable. There was some tree damage and those removals will continue throughout the summer. Otherwise fortunately I (was) pleased that our systems handled the rain acceptably. Hopefully we can get a break in the weather!”
 Down the road in Dodge Center, City Administrator Lee Mattson said the city dealt with “High flows in the sanitary sewer system due to inflow and infiltration,” which required the City to bypass the Wastewater Treatment Plant twice on Friday, June 21.
“This means that untreated sewage was discharged into Dodge Center Creek. Flows are currently back down within the operating parameters of the plant,” Mattson wrote in an email.
He said Creek Park was “partially flooded” however, none of the buildings suffered damage.
“City crews will be completing some cleanup on the park,” Mattson said.
In terms of people’s homes Mattson wrote “We have reports of sanitary sewer backups in some basements.”
