Region Dairy Princess Contest Sat. June 22
The Region Ten Dairy Princess Contest will be held on Saturday, June 22, 1974, at the Holiday Inn South, in Rochester. Three candidates from each of the eight southeastern Minnesota counties, which comprise Region Ten, will compete for the honor currently held by KathiSiewert of Lake City. The winner will compete with girls from the other ten regions at the Minnesota State Fair for the title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way.
Judging of the contestants will be done during the day with the banquet and coronation ceremonies beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Lori Anshus of Canby, the current Princess Kay, and officials of the American Dairy Association of Minnesota, will attend the evening program.
Harley Flathers, KROC radio personality will be the Master of Ceremonies at the banquet. The event is being co-sponsored by the Region Ten American Dairy Association and the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.

Human tractor pull
A first this year at Mantorville’s Old Tyme Days celebration Saturday and Sunday will be a five-person human tractor pull. The event will take place at 9 a.m. before the start of the “real” tractor pull in Riverside Park.
The human tractor pull involves five people and a 5,000 pound tractor. The five team members are required to pull a 5,000 poundtractor 100 feet. The team with the best time is the winner.
Five trophies will be awarded in the new event. Entrants can sign up before the event and there is a $5 per team registration fee. Anyone with questions can contact Terry Sell of Mantorville.
The event is sponsored by area farmers.

Highway 14 Corridor Study
Public invited t Open House
The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to an informational open house to review and comment on a long range vision plan for the Highway 14 corridor between Rochester and Kasson.
The meetingis scheduled for Thursday, July 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria at Byron High School located at 601 4th St NW in Byron. A brief formal presentation will be given at 5:15 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. Displays will be on hand, along with various agency staff and consultants to answer questions.
Over the last ten months, Mn/DOT has been working with its partner organizations (Olmsted County, Dodge County, the City of Byron and the City of Kasson) and consultant staff to develop an updatedlong term vision for the corridor along Trunk Highway 14 from just west of Rochester to just west of Kasson. Informational open houses were held in the fall of 2003. Since that time, a series of alternatives have been generated that address concepts for local roadway improvements and concepts for interchanges and grade separations along Highway 14.
The open house will give the public an opportunity to understand these suggested alternatives and to offer input and comments.

Victim Services Sexual Assault Program to hold volunteer training
Sexual assault can happen to anyone. And when it does, knowing there is someone to turn to can make all the difference in the world for victims and their families. The Sexual Assault Program of Victim Services trains volunteers to offer such support to survivors of sexual assault in Dodge, Olmsted and Filmore counties.
This required 40-hour course teaches prospective volunteers the skills necessary to become crisis line advocates. The next training session will begin late July and run through August. Training sessions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (July 29th, 30th, and August 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th, 27th) from 5:15 p.m. — 9:30 p.m.
The training will be held in Rochester and is free to those wanting to become volunteers. For more information about becoming a volunteer with Victim Services, call Neil Dennison at 328-7276. Interested applicants must apply by July 21,2014.
