Local Faro family takes over Smiling Moose location, opens new restaurant
It’s all about home town, and family.
That’s what Lexie Faro says about her family’s new business, The Kickback, which occupies the former Smiling Moose location in downtown Kasson. The new restaurant had a soft opening with an active drive-through in May, and they plan to open indoor seating at the end of July.
The family bought the building in December. They will have a restaurant and bar area inside, with pop-up tents for outside dining and a patio. In the winter they’ll have igloos.
The drive-through is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. Involved in the business are Lexie Faro’s dad Tony, brother Jesse and sister Bella, among others. “There are six of us so far,” Lexie Farro said.
Featured food and drinks are specialty sodas, iced drinks, energy drinks, coffee, smoothies, breakfast served all day, sandwiches, soups, desserts, wraps, wings, salads and pizza.
In July, the menu will expand to include burgers and steaks and other dinner options.
“Kasson is our hometown and it’s where me and my brother grew up,” Lexie Faro said. “We have friends and family around in the area. We just decided we wanted to open a restaurant and why not do it in our hometown where we knew everyone?”
The family has business experience and, specifically, experience in the food industry, she said.
What’s more, family dishes are included on the menu, such as the Alaskan Kickback Pizza.
“We want it to be a place where you can come and hang out with your family and friends, kick back and relax and enjoy some great food and entertainment,” Lexie Faro said.
