Local author signing book at Dodge Expo

Mantorville Author Terry Eckstein will be signing his new book, “HR Behind Closed Doors,” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Dodge County Expo on Saturday, March 23.
The book, Eckstein said, was inspired by events that he encountered during his career in human resources.
Eckstein said the book, the story of the fictional Connor Stone, depicts the discrimination and harassment that many women face in today’s workplace. He said he hoped that by showing what is taking place in human resources there will be an improvement in the way women are treated at work.
“The things portrayed in the story are graphic and shocking,” he said, “while at the same time being a realistic example of what takes place in the workplace.”
Because of the nature of the book, Eckstein said, it is only available for adult readers.
It was the “adults only” content of the book that led to “HR Behind Closed Doors” not being for sale at the Mantorville Art Guild, unlike several of his previously published books.
At a news conference last week in front of the Art Guild, Eckstein said that he had originally suggested the book be kept behind the checkout so that the Mantorville Art Guild could control who had access to it.
The book was reviewed by the Art Guild board which decided they would not offer it for sale.
The Guild is not saying the book should not be sold, said Board Secretary Willow Steel.
It is not a question of whether the book should be sold, she said, “just not at this venue.”
The Art Guild, she said, centers its activities around kindergarten through grade 12 students. They have a series of summer camps for young artists and all Art Guild activities at Mantorville events involve student interaction, she said.
A Youth Art Show is currently on display at the Art Guild through March displaying the works of students from local schools.
