Golf courses in area open up

We’re months ahead of schedule when it comes to teeing it up on the tee box and swinging away.
“It’s all weather based,” said Mike Hasley, head golf professional at The Oaks Golf Club in HayfieLd, on Sunday afternoon. “Today we’re very busy. But the weather has been good. Traffic has been good. When it’s cold … we’ve had days where we haven’t had any players.”
They opened on Feb. 26. And are normally opening the third week of March, Halsey said.
At Dodge Country Club in Dodge Center, their first day of being fully open, with carts, was Monday.
“Oh yeah, our T sheets are filling up pretty good,” said Zach Otto, general manager at the course.
Zumbro Valley Golf Course in Mantorville planned to open Monday as well, with limited hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
And it’s still quiet at Somerby Golf Club in Byron. There the driving range is partially open for eager members. The 18-hole golf course will probably open in early April, said Devin Winther, first assistant golf professional at Somerby.
“Players are wanting to get out there,” Winther said. “Definitely. We’ll open a little earlier than we typically do. We usually stretch it out to early May for sure, some years.”
