MPCA seeks input on existing feedlot in Dodge County

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is accepting feedback on an existing feedlot in Dodge County.
Toquam Hogs of rural Blooming Prairie has filed for a permit to continue operating a facility that houses up to 3,920 hogs. The facility is located at 68707 130th Ave. in Ripley Township.
The MPCA Commissioner has made a preliminary determination to issue the permit for two and a half years.
Officials with MPCA said public comments will be taken until Jan. 17 in which people should identify their interest in the permit application, the action they wish the MPCA to take and reasons supporting their position.
Mark Gernes of the MPCA said there are about 1,000 feedlots across Minnesota like Toquam’s that are required to carry similar permits. He said the MPCA typically does not receive much feedback from the public during the permitting process.
Comments about Toquam’s permit may be submitted online at www.mpca.commentinput.com/comment/search or mail to Mark P. Gernes, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, 12 Civic Center Plz., Suite 2165, Mankato, MN 56001.
