BYRON — It’s easy to see why the Byron girls basketball team holds a 9-2 overall record on the season—because they play as a team, and they are guided by an excellent coaching staff. On Monday, January 8, the Lady Bears defeated Winona, 61-47.

Byron bucket girls enjoy 2-1 week
The Lady Bears are an exciting bunch to observe on the hard courts. Owners of a comfortable 8-2 overall record, the Byron girls might just as well be sitting at 9-1…if not for Thursday, January 4. That was the game versus powerhouse Goodhue. A final 3-point attempt taken by Byron with 2 seconds left, bounced off the back rim, and gave Goodhue a 46-45 win; and it left Byron— 8-2 on the season. On Tuesday, January 2, the Bears bested Zumbrota-Mazeppa, 74-40, and Saturday saw the Byron girls topple Two Rivers, 66-32.

Hayfield bucket girls win 2, lose 1
The Hayfield girls basketball team enjoyed a winning week recently. On Tuesday, January 2, the girls defeated Grand Meadow, 62-50. Friday saw the Lady Vikings overwhelm Medford, 69-16. Closing out the busy week on Saturday, the Hayfield girls battled Sleepy Eye, and the Indians emerged victorious by a 70-66 final tally.

Lady KoMets celebrate perfect start to the year
The Kasson-Mantorville basketball girls started out the new year on the right foot. On Tuesday, January 2, the K-M kids topped Northfield, 68-43. Thursday, the KoMets overwhelmed Cannon Falls, 83-27, and on Saturday, K-M outlasted Red Wing, 64-58.

The Lady Cobras played two games to open the new year. On Tuesday, January 2, the girls battled Tri-City United, and lost, 75-51. Back at it on Friday, the Triton girls fell to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown by a final tally of 61-36.
