Byron woman running for Minnesota House in District 24A

A Byron resident has announced she is seeking the DFL endorsement for Minnesota House District 24A.
Heather Holmes has announced she is running for the District 24A seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Holmes currently serves as a member of the Byron Independent School District 531 School Board and the City of Byron Diversity Council. She also has over two decades of experience in scientific research.
Her campaign will be holding a kickoff event on Tuesday, January 16, from 5 to 9 p.m., at The Compadres in Byron.
Holmes said the key issues she would like to focus on are education, the economy, the environment, healthcare, and affordable housing.
“Growing up in the Midwest, I was taught that we take care of our neighbors,” Holmes said. “I see this in action in our communities all the time. We shovel out our neighbor’s driveways, we rally around families during times of tragedy, and we support each other’s achievements. I feel our state’s economy should reflect those same values.”
Holmes grew up in Superior, Wis. and has lived in Byron for 17 years with her husband Amos and daughter Gabby. She holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She currently works as a research technologist in a transport biology lab in Rochester.
District 24A encompasses portions of Dodge and Olmsted Counties, including the cities of Byron and Kasson. The District is currently represented by Republican Duane Quam.
