Volleyball team continues to battle through adversity

The Triton volleyball team started with a lot of optimism. New coach Rebecca Goossens knew what she had in this team and the hope was that she could tap into some of the potential on the team to have a solid season.
While things haven’t gone as planned, the Cobras are still fighting despite picking up another pair of losses against Cannon Falls and Zumbrota-Mazeppa last week.
The week began with a sloppy effort at home against the Bombers that saw little resistence en route to a three game sweep. Danielle Hansen (nine kills) and Rachel Huseth (eight kills) were able to convert on some opportunities, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Cannon Falls.
After a day to reflect and make adjustments, the Cobras came out with more energy against the Cougars. Triton was able to take the first game by a score of 25-20, but fell 25-19 in the second game.
The Cobras went blow-for-blow with Z-M from there, but couldn’t find a way to take the third game (25-22) and fell just short of forcing a decisive fifth game after losing the fourth game 30-28.
Greta Rhodes was all over in this game as she did a little bit of everything. Her 13 kills lead the team and she helped pitch in with 18 assists, 14 digs and three aces. Ella Blaisdell also had a solid effort with eight kills, 18 digs and three blocks in the loss.
The Cobras still are looking for momentum as they head toward the final parts of the year as they’ll face one of the top teams in the state in Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday night. They’ll also participate in the Byron tournament on Saturday.
