K-M boys soccer earns shutout against Winona

WINONA — The Kasson-Mantorville boys soccer team defeated the Winona Winhawks on Saturday evening, September 9, by a final tally of 2-0. Sawyer Bendickson had an assist, by kicking a corner that led to a scoring header by Miguel Martinez.
In the second half, Joaquin Lundi scored a goal, kicking in a ball that came across the middle of the box. Lars Ingram had another great game at keeper, coming out of the box at times to make plays. He also had five saves.
Kasson-Mantorville: Joaquin Lundi, 1 goal; Miguel Martinez, 1 goal; Sawyer Bendickson, 1 assist. Goalie Lars Ingram had 5 saves.
“It was a big section win for us, with Winona being in our section and having been the #1 seed in the section playoffs last year,” remarked Coach Shawn Bromelkamp.
 
K-M soccer endures tough week
Idle time is not something the Kasson-Mantorville boys soccer team enjoys too often. And of late, they have spent much of their free time on the pitch. The boys took on a formidable Faribault bunch last Tuesday, September 5, and fell, 0-4.
Thursday evening saw the KoMets battle the Lake City Tigers to a 1-1 draw. A new rule this year asserts that there are no overtime periods during the regular season, hence the tie game resulted.
“It was a very busy week! We lost in Faribault, and the score was 3-0 at half-time. There weren’t a lot of stats for us, but Lars Ingram played a great game as goalkeeper, and he had 18 saves. It was a tough loss against a section team, but we hope to bounce back with an HVL Conference game against Lake City,” expressed Coach Shawn Bromelkamp.
The Lake City game featured a Tiger goal within the first two minutes of the first half, but they would score no more. Josh Buchl scored for the KoMets in the 2nd half, on a corner kick. Senior Lars Ingram played keeper and had nine saves. “We felt like we controlled the 2nd half, with multiple shots on goal and possessing the ball for the majority of the time,” Coach Bromelkamp added.
