Matt Maas joins Dodge Center City Council

When former Dodge Center City Councilor Josh Jorgenson moved out of city limits he was required to vacate his seat on the council.
Since he served more than half his term Dodge Center was not required to hold a Special Election to fill the seat and instead the Mayor was able to appoint someone with the consent of the council.
After a conversation between Matt Maas and Mayor Bill Ketchum, the Mayor decided to appoint Maas to fill the voided seat which was approved by the council.
During the last Dodge Center City Council Meeting Maas was sworn in as a council member fulfilling a dream he always had.
“It was something I always wanted to do,” Maas said.
Maas is no stranger to public service as he currently serves as the Emergency Management Director for Dodge County, as well as the Assistant Chief for the Dodge Center Fire Department, a position he has held for the last six years. Aside from serving as the Assistant Chief for the last six years he also has served on the department for the last twelve years.
While Maas has always enjoyed being apart of helping the community it was a couple of years ago when he lost his son Logan in a tragic motor vehicle accident that made him realize even more that he wanted to give back to his community.
“The support that our family received from the community was tremendous and I want to continue giving back to the community,” said Maas. “I think being on City Council is a real good fit to do so,” he added.
Some of the things that Maas is looking forward to doing as apart of the city council is being able to update the community and be able to take advantages of different opportunities that Dodge Center may have.
One of those opportunities that Maas pointed to was the fact that Rochester is in the process of becoming more of a medical destination.
He explained that there's a chance that Dodge Center may be able to take advantage of being close by to Rochester to add residents and businesses to the community something that would help tremendously.
Another update that Maas pointed to that is going on now is the updates being made to Dodge Center’s North Park as part of a grant they received.
Overall Maas is excited to help with the bigger picture of the City and looks forward to helping out in any way he can.
“I look forward to learning about what the City has going on and doing whatever I can to help the City.”
The Claremont native will have a little less than two years to serve on the Dodge Center City Council and from there can make the decision to run for the position or not.
As of now Maas believes he will.
