Mantorville bridge closing June 10

Mantorville’s bridge over the Zumbro River will be closing on June 10 as the construction work on Highway 57 through the city continues.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) the bridge will close for approximately one week, depending on the weather, so crews can work on storm sewer installation near the bridge. Crews will have to dig up the road to install stormsewer pipes which requires closure of the road.
During the closure, drivers will need to use the detour of Co. Rd. 12, Co. Rd. 9 and Co. Rd. 16. The project team is continuing to discuss access for emergency responders to minimize any disruptions, MnDOT officials said.
In addition to the current work of storm sewer installation, crews are also installing curb between 6th and 9th streets.
Safety continues to be an issue the MnDOT notice said, as crews are reporting that drivers are cutting through private property, which puts residents and workers at risk. Please respect the private property of others, MnDOT said. Law enforcement is also aware of speeding and dangerous driving in the work zone.
MnDot is also telling motorists to slow down and drive with caution.
Drivers traveling too fast and not paying attention are the main causes of work zone crashes. Follow these safe driving tips:
Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio — even eating — while in work zones.
Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.

Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
Do the zipper merge.
Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
In order to keep Mantorville residents and businesses updated on the construction project, a weekly meeting is scheduled between residents and the contractor.
The project contractor, Elcor Construction, meets in-person weekly with community members each Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the County Seat Coffee House, 1 5th St. W., Mantorville.
Work on the project began in mid-April with an anticipated completion date in late summer.
MnDOT is reconstructing the roadway base to Highway 57 and constructing a new driving surface.
The city is replacing stormwater pipes and upgrading pedestrian and bike facilities.
