Local lifters compete at National meet
Three local lifters competed at the USAPL High School National Powerlifting Meet as Ben Roussopoulos of Dodge Center, Alex McElmury of Kasson and Trenton Kruger of Kasson all hit the stage to show their improvement throughout the year.
Roussopolos placed fifth in the 83 kilogram raw junior varsity weight class as he squatted 122.5 kg, benched 82.5 kg and deadlifted 172.5 kg for a total of 377.5 kg. The totals in his squat and deadlift were both personal records and was a solid outing in his second consecutive appearance at the national meet.
Although battling the flu and a back issue, McElmury also was impressive competing in the 66 kg raw varsity weight class. The senior would squat 107.5 kg, bench 72.5 kg and deadlift 160 kg for a total of 340 kg in his third straight year at nationals.
Kruger would compete in the 105 kg raw varsity weight class and set personal records in all three lifts with a squat of 195 kg, bench of 85 kg and deadlift of 205 kg for a total of 485 kg. This was Kruger’s third consecutive year of qualifying for the national meet.
In the end, the boys were grateful of their opportunity to compete at nationals and thanked Zach Kruger for his guidance and coaching throughout the season.
