KPD helps encourage school spirit

This week’s article will feature our high school leadership group. The KoMet Pride Department is a leadership group that we developed about five years ago. Broc Threinen and Jessica Schoenfelder help lead and organize this group. Our goal is to eventually have this be a student-led leadership group at Kasson-Mantorville, dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. As part of the high school’s commitment to building school spirit, the KPD plays a vital role in organizing and promoting various activities that celebrate diversity, inclusion, and community engagement. The name “KoMet Pride” reflects the school’s mascot and serves as a reminder of the collective strength and unity of students, faculty, and staff.
Members of the Komet Pride Department are selected based on their dedication to creating a welcoming atmosphere at the school. We invite leaders from freshman through seniors from each and any sport or activity! We hope to have future captains attend the meetings and encourage coaches to attend and invite their leaders. They are responsible for coordinating school-wide events such as pep rallies, spirit days, charity fundraisers, and other initiatives designed to boost morale and strengthen the sense of school community. Additionally, the department works closely with teachers, administrators, and student groups to ensure that all students feel valued and supported. We meet once a week and each time a coach or advisor leads a character-building leadership lesson before we get into discussing the upcoming events for our school.
The KoMet Pride Department also aims to promote leadership development among its members. Students gain experience in event planning, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, all while making a tangible impact on the school’s culture. By engaging with a wide range of student interests and needs, the department helps build a school environment where all students feel proud to be a part of the KoMet family.
Through their efforts, the Komet Pride Department fosters an atmosphere where school spirit thrives and every student has the opportunity to contribute to a positive, welcoming school community.
