Kenyon takes state Class A wrestling title, five individual medals

It was a good week for Kenyon-Wanamingo High School wrestlers as they won the Class A state title Thursday night for the first time ever with a 26-24 win over Frazee.
Then, on Saturday, they finished the week off with freshman Jeron Matson winning the state championship at 106 pounds and four other Knights earning medals.
Seniors Ethan Cota (113), Ted Androli (170) and Luke Rechtzigel (182) took fourth place honors and Austin Jackson (285) won a fifth place.
In the team event, the Knights started off the competition with a 39-26 win over Caledonia.
They defeated Pierz 34 to 21 in the semifinals before meeting Frazee for the state championship.
In the finals, top-seeded Kenyon-Wanamingo won just six of the dual’s 14 matches, but the Knights were able to earn enough bonus points along the way to capture their first wrestling team championship after being the Class A runner-up in 2009.
