Kasson water tower receives a landscaping upgrade

After 16 years, the park around Kasson’s old water tower is getting an update. For the last week, Bernie Buehler, his daughter Mary and Nic Matejcke laid down new pavers on the path leading to and surrounding the water tower. 
While the city is responsible for maintaining the water tower, the Dodge County Historical Society is responsible for maintaining the park surrounding the water tower. Due to its sinking pavers and uneven steps, the park had become a bit of a safety hazard, Dodge County Historical Society Treasurer Linda Jerviss said. 
Buehler, who originally paved the path 16 years ago, is updating his previous work. He originally took on the project and designed the landscaping surrounding the water tower. But this time around, the project will not take as much time to complete. Sixteen years ago, Buehler’s work took three weeks to complete.
“There was nothing,” Buehler said. “It was blacktop.”
The work Buehler was contracted to complete came after a community push to save the historical water tower. Those who wanted to preserve the historical sight banded together to fundraise and procure grant funds to restore the water tower, Jerviss said.
