Kasson library prepares for 125th anniversary

From a fashion show to high tea, the Kasson Public Library has it all going on in celebration of its 125th anniversary this year.
It all began April 7 with an open house at the library. Next up, on May 5, there’s a high tea and fashion show with fashion through the ages showcased, said David Greenfield, interim director.
“For each decade the library has been in existence, we are finding fashion from that era,” he said. “We are finding fashion from every decade from 1890 to 2020.”
The May 5 event is ticketed and tickets cost $40. They went on sale April 7. There’s a limit of 80 people, and the event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. It’ll be held at the library.
Additionally, the library will participate in three summer parades, including the Good Neighbor Days parade in Byron, the Kasson Festival in the Park parade and the Mantorville Days parade.
There will also be a fall festival on Oct. 12, Greenfield said, but details are yet to be determined. So far, there will be bands performing in the park adjacent to the library, food trucks, and a tent with a dance floor. Other details will be worked out later and announced to the public.
“We’ve gotten really good response so far,” he said of the library’s 125th celebrations. “I think there’s a lot of excitement around it. It’s a lot of work but should be a fun experience.”
“It’s a really great time,” Greenfield said. “We’re really looking forward to the community coming together around the library and just having a great celebration.”
