Kasson library End-of-Year celebration Friday

Kasson’s Public Library will bring its 125th year activities to a close this Friday, December 13, with an End-of-Year Celebration from 2 to 5 p.m.
Residents are invited to stop by for cake, refreshments, and fellowship as they wrap-up the yearlong anniversary celebration.
The library has been celebrating its anniversary since April when an open house to kick off the celebration was held. In May a high tea and fashion show was held and featured a show of fashions from every decade from 1890 to 2020.
During the serving of the food at the May tea, Library Board Member Nancy Hackenmiller spoke about the fashion of each decade and linked it to a book of the times.
First luncheon course looked at the 1900s — Decade of Opulence/Wonderful World of Oz; 1910s — The Sunken Years/Tarzan of the Apes; 1920s — Time to Jazz it Up/The Great Gatsby and 1930s — Feeling Depressed/Gone With The Wind.
The second course involved 1940s — War & Dior/Goodnight Moon; 1950s — The Elvis Era/The Catcher in the Rye; 1960s — Peace & Invasions/To Kill a Mockingbird; 1970s — Disco Divas/Roots, and 1960s — Women Mean Business/Beloved.
The third course rounded it out with 1990s — Grungy Times/ Girl with a Pearl Earring; 2000s — Put That in Your Pocket/The Help; 2010s — Coming Round Again/The Fault in Our Stars, and 2020s — Zoom Away/Where the Crawdads Sing.
The library staff also participated in a number of summer parades.
Mrs. Claus also made a special appearance at the library last Saturday as part of the Christmas in Kasson activities to read to the youngsters at the Saturday morning story time.
The library got its start in 1899 when 10 local women donated books to organize a library for the city of Kasson. It became an official public library in 1910.
It became fully automated in 1987 when it joined the SELCO regional library system and moved to its present location 2016.
The library is located at 607 1st St. NW, Kasson.
