K-M girls set another school record score

For the second time this season, the Kasson- Mantorville girls golf team hit a new low. In most cases, that would be a bad thing, but in the game of golf, hitting a low is the mark of a tremendous season. The KoMets’ new low happened last week as K-M headed to Pine Island for the third HVL match of the season on May 20 and set a school record with a team score of
353.
The KoMets were led by Elizabeth Fagerlind, who continued her torrid pace this season shooting a 72 in Pine Island. Her score was good for second in the tournament behind Lake City’s Ava Wallerich (66) and pushed her third in the HVL standings behind Wallerich and Marah Rothgarn (Lake City).
K-M got a similar strong effort from Ashley Johnson, who would shoot an 82 on the afternoon. Her round was good for fifth in the tournament and placed her sixth in the latest HVL
standings.
The KoMets were able to round out their team score with strong efforts from Annabel Smith (96) and Grace Sorensen (103) to set their record and finish second in the meet to Lake City, who shot a blistering 306 as a team.
The boys would get their turn to impress earlier last week as they headed to Lake City for their third HVL match of the year on May 14. Dylan Yanke would be the leader for the KoMets in this one, shooting an 87 to finish 13th in the match.
Yanke’s effort was followed up by T.J. Rodenz (91), Jack Nelson (91) and Tyler Upham (92) to give K-M a team score of 361 that was good for sixth place in the tournament.  Even outside of the team score, all six golfers shot under 100 on the afternoon as Jack Sorensen shot a 94 and Easton Hammill shot a 96.
K-M will spend a lot of time in Cannon Falls this week after taking part in the Cannon Falls Invitational on Monday and making a return trip on Thursday for the HVL Conference Championship.  The KoMets will return to Cannon Falls on May 30 for the first day of the Section 1AA Chamionship.
