Incident leads to Triton lockdown Friday
An incident in Dodge Center caused Triton Public Schools to go into a lockdown Friday afternoon.
Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose released the following statement on Friday night:
“On February 6th, 2026 at approximately 0127PM, Dodge County Dispatch received a call from a
party at 202 3rd Street NE in Dodge Center reporting that his room-mate was armed,
intoxicated, and threatening to shoot others and himself. Caller identified the suspect as 46-
year-old Michael Majerus and stated that Majerus had multiple firearms in the house.
The first Deputy arrived on scene at approximately 0130PM. Majerus was outside of the house
with what appeared to be a high caliber rifle leaning up against the front of a vehicle next to
him in the driveway. The deputy made verbal contact with Majerus who was agitated and
refused to walk away from the firearm. Majerus eventually picked up the rifle and was walking
around the front of the house making comments that he wanted deputies to shoot him.
Deputies continued to talk to him to try and negotiate with him to give up and put the rifle
down.
Deputies on scene requested assistance from Kasson Police and Minnesota State Patrol
Troopers who quickly responded to the area and helped establish a perimeter around the
residence to keep the incident contained to that property. During this incident the Dodge
County School Resource Deputy, who was on duty at the Triton School, advised them to go into
a secure lockdown which they did at 0135PM.
At approximately 0204PM Majerus went back into the house with the rifle. Deputies were
advised that Majerus’s two adult sons were in the house. At 0207PM one of the sons came
outside and indicated that the other son had tackled the subject and was holding him down in
the house. The two closest deputies immediately responded into the house and took Majerus
into custody.
Majerus was transported to St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester to be evaluated and then held at
the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center pending formal charges from the County
Attorney’s Office.
There were no shots fired during this incident, no injuries to anyone involved, and the incident
was contained to the Majerus property. The Triton School lockdown was cancelled shortly after
he was taken into custody.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Kasson Police Department and Minnesota State
Patrol for their quick response and assistance, the Dodge Center Ambulance Service for their
assistance, and the quick thinking of his adult son who tackled him in the home until deputies
could get inside. This incident could have ended tragically without his son’s heroic actions.”
Triton Goes Into SECURE
According to Triton Superintendent Luke Lutterman, at approximately 1:35 p.m. Trtion was "notified by Dodge County law enforcement to enter a Secure. We made the announcement and notified our families. This was due to an incident that was not school-related but was in Dodge Center. During a Secure, all exterior doors are locked, and normal school activities continue inside the building. We were then notified by law enforcement at 2:14 PM that we could resume normal operations."
"A SECURE - directs students and staff to get inside and lock the outside doors. The Secure is called when there is a threat or hazard outside the school building," he wrote in an email to the DCI.
