Hayfield/ Schaeffer Academy defeats Fillmore Central

The Hayfield/ Schaeffer Academy girls basketball team defeated Fillmore Central 64-57 to start its week of basketball last week.
“With a bunch of sickness going through our program, we looked very lethargic and slow in the first half,” Head Coach Kasey Krekling said. “ Adjustments were made at halftime and the girls dug deep to put in a very good second half performance. I am very proud of our second half effort and happy to get a win against a scrappy Fillmore Central team.”
For Hayfield Maggie Hansen had five points, Jenna Christopherson had 17 points, Gabby Buehler had 10 points, Betsy Gillette had 11 points, and Lily Morrisey had 21 points in the win.
In its matchup against Waterville Elysian Morristown, Hayfield/ Schaeffer Academy won 48-45.
“The offense was tough sledding tonight, but the girls dug deep and found a way to win a close game down the stretch,” Krekling said after the game. “ I credit the huge, home Schaeffer Academy crowd for helping us pull out this win. It was rocking in the gym and gave us a considerable home court advantage.”
Hansen had six points, Christopherson had six points, Avi Alexander had two points, Buehler had two points, Gillette had 17 points, Morrisey had 13 points, and Frieda Rutz had two points.
Hayfield/ Schaeffer Academy was also defeated by Faribault Bethlehem Academy 58-50.
“We fell behind big early and although we cut the lead to one multiple times in the second half, we could never get over the hump,” Krekling said. “Poor shooting and way too many turnovers cost us tonight.”
Hansen finished the game with three points, Christopherson had eight points,
Kenna Rutledge had six points, Buehler had four points, Gillette had 13 points, and Morrisey had 16 points.
