Hagen takes 2nd at sections; advances to state
Senior Taylor Hagen became the second Blooming Prairie athlete to earn a trip to state competition. She placed second in the shot put at the Section1A meet Thursday, May 28, to join sophomore Taylor Christianson, who had taken medalist honors in the Section 1A golf tournament just two days earlier.
Hagen will compete in the state track meet at Hamline University this Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, while Christianson will be golfing at Turtle Creek Course near Becker on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 9-10.
Christianson had carded a 173 total for the 36 holes to earn her medalist honors, and Hagen threw the shot put 38-7 ¾ to claim second in that event.
Hagen also placed third in the discus with a toss of 110-0. Cole Sunde placed in two individual events and the 4x100-meter relay race. He took fourth in the long jump at 20-10 ¼ and finished sixth in the triple jump. The 4x100-meter relay team of Sunde, Kevin Eischens, Weston Myer and Anthony Nelson ran fifth in 45.21.
Two other girls also placed at the section meet. Alison Pryor placed eighth in the 3,200-meter run, and Lauren Larkoski picked up a point with a ninth in the 400-meter dash.
Plainview-Elgin-Millville took the team title for both the boys and girls, while Byron claimed second for the boys and Pine Island was second to PEM for the girls.
