Good Samaritan dies from injuries in fog crash

A Good Samaritan who stopped to help two other women in trouble after they crashed their vehicles has died from injuries she sustained after the initial wreck. It’s the second person to die from the freak crash.
Friends confirmed that Erin Brose, 46, of Dodge Center, died Sunday night at a hospital in Rochester. She died a few hours after the family made the difficult decision to take her off life support, friends said.
Brose grew up in the Owatonna area.
Her final act of helping others in need came around 7:45 a.m. on Dec. 30 and fit exactly what her calling in life seemed to be. She was a healthcare aide.
In heavy fog conditions, Brose came upon a crash on County Road 24 in northwest Dodge County when she pulled over to help. As she was standing next to one of the drivers involved in the initial head on crash, a truck and trailer came upon the scene. The truck swerved to miss the vehicles and, in the process, ran over Brose and Scarlett Tanner, 32, of West Concord. Tanner died at the scene.
Emergency crews wanted to transport Brose by air ambulance to Rochester; however, the foggy conditions prevented Mayo One from responding to the scene. She was transported by ground ambulance to the Rochester hospital where she died Sunday after nearly two weeks in intensive care.
Friends said Brose’s favorite Bible verse from Romans 12:13 captures the essence of her life, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
The other driver, Elizabeth Albers, 40, of Owatonna, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital in Owatonna.
Brose is survived by her husband, Andy, and two children. Funeral arrangements are pending with Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna.
Prior to her death, friends had been planning a benefit for Brose on March 2 at the Owatonna VFW to help the family with medical expenses. More information will be released about the benefit in the coming week.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
