Golfers earn trip to state

What a spectacular day it was for golf at the second round of sections at Rochester’s Eastwood golf course and for the two Triton Senior boys on the golf team, Preston Pflaum and Zach Otto who ended their last day of school on a win to go to the state tournament in Jordan, Minnesota, at the Ridges, June 9 and 10.
The team had a two-shot lead going into the tournament but blew away any competition by 30 strokes to take the medals on day two.
The pace was set by the senior Otto, who shot a very impressive 73 and Pflaum  coming in with a 77 to help lead the team to the victory.
Jaden Thiemann had an  outstanding day, finishing in first place with a 74 for medalist honors.  Ethan Otterbein also shot in the 70s, posting a 79.
Coach Don Henderson was very happy with the second days scores.
“If we can put four guys in the 70’s both days at state, we will be right in the hunt for the title,” said Henderson.
The team fired a 303 for the day with a two day total of 616,  Rochester Lourdes a 646, Lake City posted a 647,and Byron a 652.
The Lourdes coach commented on how legitimate the Triton team is. “They will be in the race up at state.”
In the individual standings, Thiemann took first, Otto second, Otterbein tied for 8th, Austin Gillund 10th and Pflaum tied for 12th out of 45 players for the two-day tournament.
Gretchen Keller also competed in the section tournament girls’ division, finishing 19th.  Coach Henderson commented on Keller performance stating, “I know she wanted to take it farther, but it was a very tough field to beat.”
